Yesterday I took the dogs for a walk and I ran into a sign that stopped me in my tracks. It said "make America kind again" and it reminded me of my fundamental message in business and in life, to be KIND. Be kind to your family, be kind to your neighbor and be kind to yourself! Be kind to the person you think deserves it the least because they may need it the most. That someone just may be you.
As an empath it has hurt my heart and soul to see so much negativity in our country. So much division. What most people don't understand is that fundamentally as humans our commonality is that we just want love and acceptance. We may have different ideas and views but our over all NEED is the same. Some will try to deny it but everyone needs love, acceptance and community. Some go looking for it and find acceptance in something perhaps you don't agree with. It doesn't make them less of a person. They found what they needed for them in their time of need.
A question I love to ask when I find myself in judgment is, is this person doing their best? Most people don't have the same life experiences, knowledge and background. To think that they would have the same beliefs as someone with polar opposite experiences is just crazy. And just because it is different does not necessarily mean it is wrong. We truly need to stop equating the two.
That brings me to another point. I feel like so many people are living in ego and the fact that they need to be right. My favorite saying is "is this worth my peace?" and if the answer is no then I feel the emotion that comes with it and move through it. It's not always easy and it is a practice for sure but you get better at it with time. Let's choose being kind over being right.
In my personal development class this weekend Brendon Burchard recommends more of us take on a role model mindset. It's what I do every day but to have a phrase that explains it so well makes it easier to teach. Make sure your thoughts shared on social media and in real life are honest, open, inclusive, thoughtful and something you want your children to hear. Please remember who is watching. Let's mend America's broken heart one heart at a time.
